I had the opportunity to see Rush in concert this past weekend. It was fun to do something with my husband and good friends but I decided that standing for 3 hours was not that much fun anymore. However it was the name of the group that struck and has been on my mind a lot the last few days.
Rush....while a great name for a group, it is also the perfect word for how most of us spend our life. We RUSH from one event to
another, we RUSH to get a project done, we RUSH through life...always waiting for the next big event or milestone. So actually we RUSH our life away. We are in such a RUSH that we use calendars, cell phones, lists to accomplish what we need to do. My "brain" is a cute little pink planner that I never go without. (Isn't it just precious?)
But being in a constant RUSH is not what was the plan for us. When we were created we were planned to enjoy the beauty of nature, to pray/meditate on the blessings in our life. To realize that in our lowest lows we have so much to be thankful for. In our RUSH we don't get to do that, or take the time to do that, very much.
My goal, my plan..is to drop the RUSH. To spend more time on my porch swing, more time with my family, but most of all to spend more time realizing how blessed I am and then hopefully sharing those blessings.
I've seen Rush perform 3 times, but it's been 20 years since I saw them last. One of my favorite bands! So glad you got to go and do something fun with Mark and your friends. Mark will get to show off his Neil Peart skills during Channel One Suite on the 18th!
ReplyDeleteYour post here also says something very significant and something I resolved to do in my own life a couple of years ago, and that is slow down and learn to just sit and be quiet. It wasn't easy for me to do, but I would go to the park, or the lake, to just sit. Not take a book, or my music, but just sit. Not even pray. Just be quiet and quiet my mind.
At one point I could last all of ten minutes, but after some practice and discipline, I got up to an hour, then two. IT'S REFRESHING! I had NO IDEA!
I encourage you to take that time on your front porch, Gina, and really take in the blessing of this life. :)
Have a great day!
