"The diamond cannot be polished without friction, nor the man perfected without trials."

There is an old country song with the line "I'm just an old lump of coal, but I'm gonna be a diamond someday". As a child I remember singing that song and while I don't know what it was that I liked about the but those lyrics stuck with me.

But as I have grown older I realized the meaning of that. It's not that one day we will suddenly be rich or famous but that thru trials and tribulations we are made more perfect. We become better people...a diamond in life.
